Girls on the RunMembers of the Ray Morgan Company staff will participate in the upcoming Girls On The Run 5K on May 5.

As a leader in the business world, the Ray Morgan Company team understands that success is about more than our bottom line. In addition to growing our network of clients, or improving our quality of services, it’s vitally important that we give back to others in our country that need it by supporting the right charities and non-profits.

One of the organizations we’re proud to support is Girls On The Run, a non-profit that promotes young women’s development of confidence and motivation through life skill education and running events. Their next 5K for the Butte-Glenn area will be on May 5, and as a part of our ongoing sponsorship, members of the Ray Morgan Company staff will be there to participate.

Girls On The Run was founded in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Their inaugural group was made up of just 13 girls from the school out of which it was based, which soon grew to 26 in the next season and 75 in the season after that. Four years after founding, the organization was established as Girls On The Run International.

Today, Girls On The Run is involved in over 200 schools in each and every state across the country. The success is due to the help of more than 100,000 volunteers, helping to motivate more than 185,000 girls in 2015 alone. That same year, Girls On The Run hosted 350 end-of-the-season 5K events all over the country.

Girls on the Run has been featured in a range of national media outlets including PeopleRunner’s WorldRedbookWomen’s DayO MagazineWomen’s RunningSELF MagazineGlamourShapeMarie ClaireParentingRunning Times, CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News, NPR, ESPN, and FOX Sports.

Participants in Girls On The Run meet twice a week in small teams to learn life skills from certified coaches through interactive lessons and running games. The three core aspects of the curriculum are understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Girls On The Run was founded on the value of running as an exercise and activity because of how it can be used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. At the end of every season, participants in the program run a 5K, offering them a real sense of achievement and a framework for setting and achieving future life goals.

One of the many benefits of being a proud Girls On The Run sponsor is that we get to hear from their staff about how the program is positively affecting the girls who are participating in it. They recently told us a couple stories that we thought were absolutely wonderful:

“Just yesterday one coach told me that a girl on her fall team is now playing softball and wants to try out for track. Her mother said her confidence has grown so much from Girls on the Run and she’s excited her girl is trying new things! Another coach shared with us that when a girl on her team learned that a friend of the coaches was trying to run one 5K each month the girl offered to invite the friend to run our 5K with her as a Running Buddy to help her meet her goal!”

It’s the small testimonies like this that really make our support of Girls On The Run worth it. This organization believes that their work will help to build a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. They work towards that vision by actively motivating the next generation of women to be joyful, healthy, and confident through participation in a fun, experience-based curriculum centered around running.

Once again, the Ray Morgan Company is proud to sponsor a wonderful non-profit like Girls On The Run. It’s not enough for us to simply deliver great services to our many clients; we also understand how important it is to contribute resources to organizations that are helping to make this work a better place. We believe the work Girls On The Run does has an invaluable influence on the lives of hundreds of thousands of girls across the country and in our local area today, as well as benefitting our future by nurturing strong, independent, and confident women who will soon be leaders in the business community as well.
